Biography

Following medical school at Wayne State University—where he was awarded the Henry Award for graduating at the top of his class—Dr. Neel Shah continued his medical training by completing his residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center. He then completed a three-year fellowship in hematology and oncology at Rush University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Fellow.

Dr. Shah is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in three areas: internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology. He has conducted extensive research in hematology and oncology, regularly participates in tumor boards, and is actively involved in clinical trials.

In recognition of his contributions to medicine, the American College of Physicians awarded him Fellowship status in 2012. Prior to that, he was named one of Illinois’ Best Doctors in 2011. After completing his fellowship and work in academic medicine, Dr. Shah began practicing hematology and oncology in a community setting in Chicago's western suburbs.

Since joining Northwest Cancer Centers in 2014, Dr. Shah has been committed to serving the people of Northwest Indiana as a physician, an educator, and a dedicated patient advocate.  Dr. Shah serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine where he instructs medical students, residents and fellows.  His patient advocacy is highlighted by his work with the Northwest Cancer Centers foundation where he is a founding member and current President.  This organization provides support services—including groceries, transportation, and childcare—for patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Dr. Shah offers patients access to cutting-edge clinical trials and holds appointments with the Power’s Healthcare System and the Franciscan Alliance System. He is currently accepting new patients at the Dyer office.
